Time Away
What you need to know

Leaves of absence
Family and Medical Leaves
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993, is a federal law requiring employers to provide unpaid, protected leave for eligible absences for up to 12 weeks in a rolling 12 month period. When you return from leave, you will be reinstated to your original or equivalent position with no loss of seniority or benefits. This leave is appropriate when you need to take time off for your own serious health condition, to help a family member with their serious health condition, or for bonding time with a child after birth, adoption, or foster care.
See the policy on Workday.
To be eligible for FMLA, you must:
- Worked for Plastipak for at least one year, and for 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months
- If at least 50 employees are employed by Plastipak within 75 miles
You must apply for FMLA at least 30 days before the foreseeable leave, and the leave will run concurrently with any other related leave, such as STD or state disability. This is the only leave that can be taken intermittently, unless FMLA leave is taken for the birth of a child, or the placement of a child for adoption or foster care.
If both you and your spouse are employed by Plastipak, you are entitled to up to 12 weeks of leave combined during any 12-month period if the leave is taken for the birth or adoption of a child. In the event the child has a serious health condition, both spouses may be entitled to up to 12 weeks during any 12-month period.
Military Leave
Military Services Leave will be granted to affected associates as required under applicable regulations. You are required to give the company advanced oral or written notice for a request of military leave, unless such notice is impossible because of military necessity or other reasonable explanation.
